Council lodges bid for Gumdale School safety upgrade

Brisbane City Council has agreed to commit 50% of the funds required to upgrade and expand the Gumdale State School drop-off and pick-up zone to help improve safety and reduce traffic congestion.
Council’ s Civic Cabinet has approved the project and an application has been made to the State Government for joint funding under the Safe School Travel (SafeST) program.
“As Gumdale State School has grown, the current drop-off and pick-up zone has been put under increasing pressure and is clearly inadequate for the job.”
“I’ m hoping that the State Government will agree to match Council’s commitment to this project so that we can get on with the job of planning and delivering this much-needed upgrade,” Cr Schrinner said.
According to Cr Schrinner, Council was also working on a similar project to upgrade drop-off and pick-up facilities at Rochedale State School. Like Gumdale, the Rochedale upgrade will require both Council and State funding.
